Dr. Smith completed his dental training in Halifax at Dalhousie University. He believed in a well rounded education and was a member of the Dalhousie swim team, winning the Maritime championships and competing subsequently in the Canadian University Championships in Edmonton, Alberta. He practiced general dentistry in Hamilton, Ontario for 3 years, mastering his skills in restorative, endodontic, periodontic and surgical aspects of dentistry. Due to a strong interest in orthodontics he received his postgraduate specialty training in orthodontics at the University of Manitoba and received his Master of Science degree with a specialty in Orthodontics.

Dr. Smith is a member of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists, the American Association of Orthodontists, the B.C. Society of Orthodontists, the Vancouver Orthodontic Study Club, and a Fellow of the College of Dental Surgeons of B.C. He has taught orthodontics at UBC dental school, lectured to numerous dental groups and brings over 30 years of the highest skill and professionalism to his practice. Dr. Smith has developed a keen interest in Invisalign treatment and has been designated a Premier Provider of Invisalign by Align Technology.

Dr. Smith resides in Vancouver and has two wonderful daughters, Stephanie and Kristina, who bring amazing joy and fulfillment to his life.
